Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin Jr, John Archambault and Lois Ehlert

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom caught my eye because of the bright graphics and the letters I saw on the first few pages, since my then-one-year-old son was drawn to the alphabet.

As it turns out, this is a classic book that even has a song and YouTube animation! In this book, the lowercase letters are all personified into mischievous children who all climb up the coconut tree to disastrous results. To fully appreciate the book, though, do sing the words, instead of merely reading it — my kids and I have memorised it thanks to the sheer number of times I’ve read it to each of them!

Check out the video below to get an idea of how to sing the words of the book — the animation is kind of messy, but this features the best version of the song that I’ve heard, and it’s sad that they’ve removed the upload of the original animation featuring it due to copyright issues.
