Way Down Deep in the Deep Blue Sea by Jan Peck and Valeria Petrone

My then-19-month-old daughter fell in love with Way Down Deep in the Deep Blue Sea at first sight, and it was her top book of choice for a very long time — no small feat. It also sparked her interest in marine life (and all the related books that follow), thanks to its super-cute and appealing artwork and simple but effective rhymes.

The book is written from the point of view of a boy who imagines going on a deep-sea treasure hunt and meeting various sea creatures along the way — the twist being that he is actually in his bathtub the whole time.

There are two other two books in this series — Way Up High in a Tall Green Tree and Way Far Away on a Wild Safari — that are worth checking out if your child likes WDDITDBS, but this is still the best of the three.
