Wild About Books by Judy Sierra and Marc Brown

When librarian Molly McGrew accidentally drives her bookmobile into the zoo, it kickstarts a reading revolution among the animals, who all go a little, well, wild for books.

Written in rollicking rhyme, Wild About Books is a librarian’s-dream-come-true as well as a terrific ode to different genres of books, with familiar titles and authors being name-dropped in the text and/or snuck into the illustrations. There is also a fine display of wit and kid-friendly humour in the way that the various animals have been paired with their books — for example, bears reading bear-related books like We’re Going on a Bear Hunt, bunnies reading Goodnight Moon, hyenas cackling over joke books, and giraffes learning about skyscrapers — and the illustrations deserve special attention for all the clever little details that might otherwise be overlooked.

A great book that ought not to be missed for its joyous celebration of books and reading, which both children and grown-ups can appreciate.
