Having somebody sneeze into your face can be a terrifying prospect these days, but when Chu sneezes, well, you REALLY won’t want to be anywhere near him — particularly since the author has forewarned us that “bad things happen”.
The details in the illustrations are brilliant, especially when you contrast the surreally calm-before-the-storm scenes with that of the mayhem that ensues when the big AH-CHOO (or Chu) happens, while Neil Gaiman‘s text is deceptively simple but has been cleverly worded for maximum suspense and comic effect — my 4.5-year-old was so tickled that he read it three times in a row by himself (after I’d already read it to him) and was equally amused each and every time!
