Kite-flying takes on a whole new meaning when Penguin Blue and his kite are swept away by a big gust of wind.
Along the way, two other penguin friends, a seal and even a polar bear (who seems to be on a solo pole-to-pole voyage) get tangled up in the caper, before the entire motley bunch of unwitting (mis-)adventurers are unceremoniously marooned on a remote tropical island where they have to find a way to get themselves home.
The short rhyming stanzas in Blown Away are pleasant, if somewhat overshadowed by the digital illustrations whose bright colours and pixelated quality evoke old-school 8-bit-style video-game graphics. The numerous quirky little details in the illustrations are also a highlight of this entertaining romp, and the monkey business at the end is sure to draw chuckles.
