So I’ve seen enough ill-fated library books with ruined pages to know that every kid needs to read Patrick McDonnell’s A Perfectly Messed-Up Story, which gently gets its book-loving point across with humour.
The author’s decision to breach the fourth wall works well here since it feels like the book is reaching out to the reader. Plus, I think it’s safe to say that no kid will be able to resist a book that comes with its own mess!
