Packed with interesting yet concisely presented facts on worms, in clear, well-spaced type, and accompanied by seriously cute illustrations and funny cartoon asides, The Worm and The Fly
are both part of the irresistibly named “Disgusting Critters” series of non-fiction books pitched at young readers, but which are also fun for grownups to read.
A big plus point of such information-orientated books targeted at kids is that these are sparse on text and heavy on illustrations — perfect for the short attention span of kids. Lest you think that the facts are dumbed down, however, proper scientific terms like “invertebrates” and “digestive tract”, are still used.
p.s. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but we’re really looking forward to reading about the rest of these disgusting critters — especially if they’re as hilarious as the worms and flies we’ve already met!
