When Mr. Squirrel is woken up by something falling on his tree, he’s shocked to find the big, round, yellow moon (which looks suspiciously like a giant wheel of cheese) on a branch.
Worried that he’d be accused of stealing it, he tries frantically to get rid of the evidence by rolling it off the tree. Alas, this kicks off a hilarious series of misadventures that further implicate a hapless hedgehog, a billy goat and a whole army of mice.
The best parts of the book, however, are the wordless two-page spreads that appear intermittently, which represent Mr. Squirrel’s wild speculations about what would happen to him and the other animals if they got caught.
Boasting some unexpected plot developments and beautifully expressive animal illustrations, this surreally entertaining story was a hit all around!
